Dean's welcome

The Faculty of Business and Law at Kingston has been at the forefront of excellence since it was formed in 1984. It combines the School of Business and the School of Law, both of which can trace their roots to the 60s. We run some of the longest established business and law courses in the UK. Our mission is to provide and unlock opportunities in business, management and the law and we do this by:

  • Offering a comprehensive set of courses with an absolute dedication to student achievement and relevance;
  • Pursuing world-class research which has impact on our stakeholders;
  • Constantly engaging and interacting with practice to shape, inform and evaluate what we do.

Each of these three ingredients is embedded in what we do. On the research front, we collaborate with researchers and organisations across the world to study and develop new and influential ideas. Our partners and collaborations include large multinationals corporations, banks and law firms; but also small business , the not for profit sector (such as museums), non-governmental organisations (including the OECD), United Nations bodies and governments throughout the world as well as at national and regional levels.

The majority of this research is funded by its direct users illustrating the relevance and credibility of the expertise of our Faculty staff. It has recently been independently assessed as world leading, internationally excellent and internationally recognised in the national Research Assessment Exercise, ranking our Business School  amongst the most research led in the UK.

On the teaching front, we offer one of the most innovative undergraduate and postgraduate portfolios in the UK. This includes offerings in all the traditional areas of management and the law, but also topics preparing our graduates for work in the digital and knowledge economy, increasingly global legal frameworks and a world where entrepreneurship and sustainability matters as much as profitability. Our teaching is recognised widely for its quality with numerous kite-marks and two international accreditations.

Kingston Business School is the first business school in the world that has received accreditation from AMBA for all its postgraduate management provision (Master's in Business Management, the Kingston MBA including its executive variants and the Kingston DBA). Our doctoral training programme, the MSc in Management and Business Studies Research, is recognised by the ESRC and is the pathway to the ESRC recognised PhD. The Law School has an international reputation for the Law related activities of mooting, client interviewing and negotiating, and for which our students regularly win top prizes.

Both myself, and Stuart Archbold our Associate Dean, along with all our faculty staff look forward to working with you and sharing our expertise, passion and imagination.
