Kingston Law degree recognised by the Bar Council of India
Tuesday, 27th October 2009 - 15:19:00Kingston Law School is delighted to announce that the Bar Council of India has awarded recognition to the Kingston LLB degree. Recognition means that the Kingston Law Degree is accepted as a qualifying law degree for enrolment as an Advocate with the Bar Council of India, under the same conditions as a three year LLB from a (recognised) University in India. This places Kingston University into a select group of Universities in the UK whose LLB degrees have been accorded recognition by the Bar Council of India. At present, this group comprises only twenty-one institutions, including Oxford and Cambridge Universities. ![]() Professor Matthew Humphreys, the Head of Kingston Law School (pictured), says: “Recognition by the Bar Council of India of the Kingston LLB is a real milestone for the programme and a boom for our students. LLBs are probably the most country specific of Kingston University’s degrees: generally studying law anywhere in England only qualifies you to practice in England. To secure recognition of our LLB in India therefore opens up a whole world of opportunity for our students and with India being such an exciting and dynamic society that is likely to be a real economic superpower in the 21st century I am sure our students will want to grasp the opportunities now on offer.” Siri Harris, a senior lecturer in the Law School, has led on securing Indian Bar Council recognition for the LLB. Siri says “I am keen to develop further international links for the Law School and Faculty. We want to develop partnerships and joint programmes with a number of institutions. The Indian Bar is very prestigious and I am really pleased we’ve met their requirements for recognition.” Back to news... |
